MEKONG LIFE ON KAYAKS

MEKONG LIFE ON KAYAKSDay 1: Laos Kayaking Tours: Pakse Kayaking tour- Houay Deua - Don Deng Kayaking tripkayak

Departing from Pakse, we drive for about 20 minutes to Ban Houay Deua. After a brief orientation, we embark on kayaks on the Mekong River along the rim of the mountain of Phou Salao and Nang Malong. We will witness the daily lives of villagers along the river. We'll kayak to a village temple built by villagers. Upon getting above this temple on the hill, we will have a panoramic view of Sipandone (4000 islands) and surrounding high mountains. After lunch, we kayak down the river, passing some small rapids. After arriving in Don Deng, we can play on the sandy beach (volleyball, football/soccer, etc) in Hat Don Deng. We can notice the distant mountain range in the west and the natural Linga, a phallus-like rock associated with the Wat Phou Temple complex. We stay overnight in the village on Don Deng Island. Home-stay and eco-lodge are both available.

Day 2: Laos Package Tours: Don Deng – Wat Phou Sightseeing Tours - Tomo Temple - Pakse

After breakfast we cross the river to Chapassak town and then cycle to Wat Phou for pakse cycling tourssightseeing and visit the historic temple and World Heritage Site. Lunch near Wat Phou or back in Champassak. After lunch, we cross the Mekong to Ban Mouang by boat. From Ban Mouang, we take a Tuk-Tuk to the Tomo Temple for a visit and drive 30 km back from there to Pakse.
Approximately: 3½ hours cycling / 1½ hours transfer/ ½ hour by boat

NAM LIK KAYAKING CHALLENGES Destination:VANG VIENG - NAM LIK
Duration: 2 Days / 1 Night


Day 1: Laos Kayaking Tours: Camp Site - Kayaking adventure trips in Vang Vieng Nam Lik River kayaks

We depart from our Office in Vang Vieng and start with a 1 hour drive north of Vang Vieng on Route 13, passing by lime stone karsts. Then drive approximately 30 minutes west on a rough dirt road to our starting point at Nam Lik River. After orientation and safety instructions, we learn basic paddling techniques before starting through grade 2–3 rapids (up to class 5 in high water) on the Nam Lik River for 3 km. These will be the biggest rapids of the trip. After this session, we will camp on a stone beach in the Nam Lik Forest for a relaxing evening along the riverbank.
Approximately: 1 ½ hours transfer/ 15 minutes instruction/ 4 hours kayaking or rafting.

Day 2: Laos Package Tours: Camp Site - Ban Muean Muang Feaung - Hin Heup - Vang Vieng / or Vientiane - Boat trips Ban Muean Muang Feaung

We rise early for the sunrise. After breakfast we repack and prepare for another half day of kayaking/rafting. At around 9am, we will leave with our kayaks for our next destination, Ban Nong Phet Na Seng. We will pass through 20 small to medium sized rapids. After all the excitement and having had lunch, we take a long tail boat ride for 1 hour that takes us to Ban Muean Muang Feaung. From here, we have a pick-up for 1 hour drive to Hin Heup and on to Vang Vieng. For those who want to continue on to Vientiane you can catch the public bus at Hin Huep. Buses leave every 30 minutes. Please check bus schedules ahead of time.Rafting Approximately: 2 1/2 hours transfer (to Vang Vieng/ 3 hours kayaking or rafting / 1 hours long tail boat.

On arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to the hotel by our driver and guide. Luang Prabang is perhaps the best-preserved traditional city in Southeast Asia. The tranquility and charm of this town with its splendid natural scenery and cultural sights make it one of the most delightful places to visit in Laos. After a short rest, we begin our sightseeing tour of some of the major sights in this faboulous city, including the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun, the shrine of Wat Aham, the city’s oldest temple of Wat Sene and Wat Mai. We visit these sights as well as the magnificent Wat Xiengthong, its exterior architecture is remarkable with decorated guilded stuccoes and doorways, a “tree of life” mosaic pattern set in coloured glass on the back wall and its three tiered roofs sweeping low to the ground representing classical Laotian architecture. A visit to Luang Prabang would be incomplete without ascending 329 steps to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa and to enjoy a beautiful sunset view of the city and its glowing reflection on the Mekong River. From there we experience the hustle and bustle of the colourful Night Market where you can find a selection of traditional textiles, gifts and souvenirs made by the local people. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 2: Luang Prabang River Kayaking Tours  (B/-/-)Kayaking on Namkhan Namkhan river

After breakfast, we begin our full day tour by taking local transportation a Tuk Tuk, on a 45 minute journey to the starting point of the kayaking area of Ban En, a small village. On arrival, we commence kayaking downstream on the Nam Khan River, passing stunning karsts mountains and observing the local activities at various small villages on our way, we kayak through some small and fun rapids. En route we stop at Tad Sea, a large beautiful waterfall that is situated in the forest with a cool natural swimming pool, you may refresh yourself from the humidity by immersing yourself in the cool and white waters of the spring in the big pool. We will enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the waterfall on a Sala terrace. After lunch, we continue our boat trip downstream to retrace the tomb of the French explorer Henri Mouhot, who stumbled across Angkor Wat in 1860, but succumbed to a malaria attack in Luang Prabang on 10th November in following year. We kayak back to Luang Prabang and change for overland transportation at Ban Phanom, a well-known weaving village of Tai Lue, who used to make silk weaving textiles for the former Lao royal family. We then kayak back to Luang Prabang by the late evening just before sunset. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 3: Laos Tours: Luang Prabang – Departure (B/-/-)Kayaking on NamKhan Phosi Market

After breakfast, we visit The National Museum (closed Tuesdays) at the former Royal Palace, which displays a lovely collection of the artefacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture dating from the days of the early kings right through the last sovereign. We also visit the Phosi Market, where you will see such diverse offerings as dried buffalo skin, local tea and saltpeter among the chickens, vegetables and hill-tribe weavings. After lunch the tour ends and you will be transferred to the airport .

Day 1: Laos Kayaking Tours: Thakhek - Ban Houay Ek - Ban Na Kue - Khoun Kong Leng lagoon - Discovery vacation:

Departing from Thakek, we drive about 38 km to Ban Houay Ek, where we take our bikes to start cycling. We’ll pass Ban Ponsamnoy and Ban Ponsamgnay. There is enough time to visit both villages. We then cycle to Ban Na Kue where we stop for lunch. After lunch, we continue biking to the almost untouched Khoun Kong Leng Lake for relaxing and swimming. Afterwards, we set up our camp on the banks of this beautiful lagoon, where we spend the night and join a traditional Baci ceremony.
Approximately: 1 hour transfer/ 2 ½ hours cycling
Note: Camping is only possible in the dry season. In the wet season, we do home-stay in Ban Na Kue after the visit to Khoun Kong Leng Lake. For the camping option, an additional charge has to be applied

Day 2: Kayaking trips in Khammouane - Ban Na Kue - Thakhek Adventure Tours:

We walk after breakfast to the starting point of our kayak tour near Na Kue village and have orientation on the kayaks first. We then start paddling down the Nam Pakan River. After about one hour we arrive at Ban Khon Keo for a short visit. Kayak about one and a half Kaykaing and Rapidhour, we stop to visit a cave and then come back for a swim in the clear refreshing river before having a picnic lunch. After lunch, we pass a few rapids (depending on the river level). Along the way, note the rock formations, one in particular looks like the head of an eagle. Who will be the first to spot it? Enjoy the rest of this kayaking tour until we get to our final point at the Nam Pakan Bridge. Pack our gear for a transport back to Thakhek
Approximately 30 minutes. Approximately:1 ½ hour transfer/ 5 hours kayaking.

From here, we continue with a traditional wooden motorboat to the village of Ban Khon Kham where we will be guests in the house of our boatman.

Day 4: Luang Namtha - Nam Ha kayaking: Ban Hat Nalaeng - Houay Xai Long Boat to Huay Xai

The trip to the Mekong valley continues in a slow boat (covered boat). The transition from hill rice to wet rice cultivation indicates the arrival in the lowlands, the cultural area of the Lao Loum. At the confluence of the Nam Tha and the Mekong, the journey continues north to the border town of Houay Xai. Here you can spend the night in a local guesthouse or travel onward to Thailand. Once you arrive in Houay Xai, travel is on your own account. Approximately: 7 hours long-tail boat
